Laughter is the Best Medicine

Sweater - Zara; Shirt - ines; Jeans - Mavi;
Boots - Steve Madden; Scarf - H&M

Last week I was not on top of my game. Why? I have no clue, but it was one of those week's where everything I touched, I messed up. It felt horrible. And embarrassing. Which is why I wasn't exactly runway ready on Friday when I sported this casual look to work.

Thankfully the weekend made up for my embarrassing week. My best friend was in town and we spent Saturday night drinking berry Sangria and taking in a show at Yuk Yuk's. What they say is true - laughter really is the best medicine. By the end of the show, all most of my woes were gone.

At least today's the start of a brand new week!

Do you ever have those weeks, where everything you touch turns to mold, not gold?

Honourary Casual Friday

As tomorrow is a holiday, today is an honorary casual Friday!

I definitely have a uniform when it comes to Fridays - cardigan, t-shirt, skinny jeans, and over the knee boots. On this particular Friday I decided to spring-it-up by wearing the season's hottest tone - orange!

Sweater - Zara; Shirt - ines from Aritzia; Tank - Smart Set; Jeans - Mavi; Boots - Aldo
Although it's technically spring, Mother Nature hasn't caught on and adjusted the temperatures just yet. So, I'm still forced to wear a coat when leaving the house - but at least it's a stylish one!

Coat - T. Babaton from Aritzia; Sunglasses - Joe Fresh

Inspiration Monday

This Inspiration Monday threw me for a loop for a number of reasons: 1. I can't wear yellow. I look like I'm in a constant state of pre-vomit. It's not good. 2. It seemed like everything I put on was not working out; at least it wasn't working out the way I was hoping. 3. My shortness was really getting in the way.

So, I have two different, yet similar, Inspiration Monday looks.

Look One

Blazer - Talula; Shirt - ines from Aritzia; Jean - H&M;
Scarf - gifted from Ottawa Fashion Week; Shoes - Aldo

Look Two

Blazer - Talula; Shirt - ines from Aritzia; Jean - Mavi;
Scarf - gifted from Ottawa Fashion Week; Boots - Aldo
Which do you prefer?

Staycation, all I ever wanted

In all my years as a working girl, I have never taken a vacation longer than 2 days that didn't revolve around a holiday. This year, all of that changed. I decided to take this past week off to relax and recharge: I took a staycation, if you will.

The first two days of my staycation were less than relaxing. My parents had driven across the country from Victoria, bringing with them the remainder of my belonging that had been left behind from my move 6+ months ago (aka: all my books and items that were too heavy to ship).

The first morning of my staycation was spent carrying boxes and boxes and boxes up to my third floor walk-up. All this heavy-lifting required a cute, but utilitarian outfit. I went with this...

Casual but functional, this outfit let me do all the heavy lifting (okay, so that was minimal, I opted for the lighter pieces while my dad did the lifting) and trudging up stairs that the re-move-in required.

Plus, it felt summery enough for the summery day (and sadly, one of the last, as a cold-spell over took Ottawa shortly thereafter).

Shirt - ines from Aritzia; Tank - SmartSet; Jeans - Mavi; Flip Flops - Old Navy
Work-wise, it wasn't the start to my staycation that I was expecting, but outfit-wise, it was perfect. I felt comfortable but cute - what more could you ask for.

My Kind of Nautical

Well, hello! Happy August to you!

How did you spend the Civic Holiday/Heritage Day/B.C. Day/New Brunswick Day/Saskatchewan Day/Natal Day, and more (depending on location - phew, that holiday has too many names) long weekend?

To start off this month, I thought I'd post an outfit from a couple of weeks ago. It was in the midst of Mosquito-gate (also mentioned here, please don't judge me based on that outfit alone. Dire times called for dire measures...)

It was during this dark period of my life that I wore pants every single day that week, even though the temperature was 25C+ each and every day... if that's not sartorial torture than I don't know what is.

Because I don't own a ton of summery work appropriate pants I caved and I splurged on a pair of cropped pants and went for a colour-blocking nautical theme. (Okay, the pants were 50% off - how could I pass that up?! I actually bought two pairs. You'll be meeting their grey cousins very soon I expect

 I love how crisp the white look and how the blue pops against the pants.

It's a miracle I made it through the day without staining them in some way or another.

Plus, it didn't aggravate the uber-sensitive mosquito bites.

The only thing I didn't love about the outfit were the shoes; they didn't blend as well as I was hoping. Oh well, live and learn... and I guess I'll just have to go and buy a new, blue pair of shoes for next time ;)
