Growing up on an island on the West Coast, real winters (with, like, snow and blizzards, and the likes) were like unicorns: you heard about them, saw photos, but other than that there was no actual proof that they existed. So, when I moved out to Ottawa for university I was in for a real shock. I had no clue how to dress to avoid losing a digit.
Now, eight hears later, I have it down to a science, which is why I was able to withstand the -14C (-21C with the windchill) for over five hours at WinterBrewed this past weekend. So, here are my tips for staying cozy and cute this winter.
1. Start with a base.
2. Add a layer of thick, wooly socks.
3. Top these deliciously unattractive socks with a wind resistant boot.
4. Accessorize!
5. Top with a coat.
6. And, add sunglasses for the finishing touch of cool.
Now, you're ready to head out and enjoy the sunshine!

DeleteIt's such a weird concept to me that there are several climates in one country! Being from Europe, I have to go abroad for other weather types.
ReplyDeleteLovely boots! :)
You're too cute! But you're giving away our secrets, otherwise people would just think we're tough when it comes to the cold! (JK) I grew up in Kamloops so I'm definitely feeling you!
ReplyDeleteThanks you :)
DeleteHahaha it is totally a science! Do you find your hunters are actually warm? I mean, i know you've got two layers of socks, but is it really enough??
ReplyDeleteThe two pairs of socks were enough, but just. By the time I called it a day (after 5+hours outside) my toes were a little cold.
DeleteOh good old windchill... only real Canadians can take it! I'm in Ottawa right now for University too!
ReplyDeleteI love how you accessorized this look. The touque is fabulous!

Thanks Monica - how are you enjoying Ottawa?
DeleteCUTE CUTE CUTE! Such a fun winter look! Love the hat, and of course the Hunters, and your coat is gorgeous! Plus, you look cozy and warm :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sara!
DeleteSuch an awesome piece and a simple yet very chic way to look great with sub zero temps. Love it :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Delete:) I really enjoyed this post. My tips are same as yours, layer layer and layer. I love Primark thermal tights for winter as it means I can still wear dresses. I wear a normal pair of tights with Primark thermal tights over the top, a pair of knee socks with knee boots, my dress (with a thermal top underneath if needed) and a thick cardigan over the top. Then I wear my winter coat, scarf, gloves and hat and top off with ear muffs if needed :)
ReplyDeleteLiving in Northern England gives you good experience of the cold haha
