Bad Luck

Cardigan - Zara; Tanks - Smart Set & American Apparel; Skirt - Jacob
Tights - Zellers; Boots - Aldo

Last week was not my week.

It all started on Sunday, when a random red light I've never seen before lit up on my Tassimo coffee machine. I'd already made my morning coffee so I choice to ignore it and focus on more important things, like getting ready for Harvest Noir.

Monday morning the ominous red light was still on; the water tank was full, so after pushing the button a few times hoping it would cure itself, I was out of ideas. Frantically, I turned to Google and that's when my world came shattering down around me - my Tassimo needed to be descaled. I had no clue what that meant.

Over the next few days I tried everything: lemon juice and water, filtered water; nothing was working. Giving up on natural remedies, I even went on the hunt for descaler, literally running across town to locate this product that I'm now convinced doesn't exist. That's when I turned to a radical google-suggested solution: Orange Kool-aid.  Surprisingly, it worked like a charm. Tassimo was on the mend, life was good again.

Or so I thought.

I turned a blind eye on the coffee machine for two minutes and that's when it decided to flood my kitchen, sending two juice glasses sliding off the counter and smashing onto the floor.

So, there I was, picking up glass and moping in my PJs at midnight. Not too fun or fashionable.

To cheer myself up the next morning, and celebrate the return of my morning cup of coffee, I pulled together a look to make it appear that the horrors of the week hadn't happened. The tights may have been a bad idea on such a warm fall day, but I had my morning cup of coffee; nothing could phase me.

Candy Colourized

For this month's Petite Fashion Challenge I turned to one of my favourite snacks: pretzel M&Ms.

For Petite Fashion Challenge #17 we were instructed to "take a bowl full of colorful candies (M&Ms, Jolly Ranchers, jelly beans, etc.), close your eyes, and draw 2-3 pieces.  Now use those colors (+ a neutral of your choosing) to form the basis for your ensemble."

Top (which is actually a dress) - American Apparel; Skirt - Jacob;
Pumps - Aldo; Watch - Fossil

I don't normally wear this much colour, but for pretzel M&Ms I'd do just about anything.

Ottawa Fashion Week: An Outfit Post

Unless you live under a rock, you'll know that this past weekend was Ottawa Fashion Week - a glorious three days where the city's most fashionable come together to celebrate the upcoming trends... and some how I'm allowed to attend to.

I never know what to wear to these kinds of events, but I knew I wanted to wear brights, so this is what I settled on.

Blazer - Talula from Aritzia; Tunic - American Apparel; Belt - Jacob; Boots & Ring - Aldo; Watch - Fossil

Did you make it to Fashion Week? What was your favourite show?

Layer Up: Friday-Saturday

It's another two-for-one outfit post courtesy of the Fashion Challenge: Layer Up!

I know I said that Thursday's Yeti Chic: Casual look was my favourite, and it was at the time, but it has since been replaced.

Friday: Jacket over Cardigan
I have a casual Friday uniform. It consists of skinny jeans, boots, a cardigan and a scarf. But after wearing this beauty of an ensemble on Friday I have a new Friday uniform. Not only was I comfortable and cozy in my sub-arctic office, but I felt put together, and I loved the pop of red.

Blazer - Talula from Aritzia; Sweater - Bluenotes - Tank - Smart Set; Jeans - Mavi; Boots - Aldo

Saturday: Dress over Pants
This is a trend that I haven't thought about since grade eight, but I was up for the challenge. Plus, it gave me the opportunity to wear my often neglected American Apparel tunic. I love the colour and it made for the perfect ensemble for the Sens-Leafs game - all of my friends will be cheering for the Leafs so I'll look like I fit in, even though I will be cheering for the Red Wings (I believe they can win any game, even the ones they aren't playing in). It will even be perfect when we make our way from the game to the pub.

These two ensembles will definitely be repeated throughout the season.

Inspiration Monday: Olivia Munn

For the second week in a row I had trouble with the Inspiration Monday challenge. It wasn't coming up with an idea, but it was in the execution where I was having issues; I'm blaming hormones.

But, I digress. This week's inspiration was Olivia Munn and her slouchy, cute, striped look:

As I mentioned, I was having trouble loving the images from my first Inspiration Monday shoot. I had taken a very literal approach in recreating Olivia's look, but I was having one of those days where the shirt felt way too tight and the horizontal stripes were remarkably unflattering; so, I scraped it and went with a different and more flattering approach.

And, one that let me show off my brand new Forever 21 sweater.

When I came across this sweater on the Forever 21 website I knew it was the sweater for me. As West Coast girl, umbrellas and rain symbolize winter to me more than snow, so I had to make it part of my winter wardrobe.

The day I picked up the sweater was also the day I walked around the city unknowingly with one dilated pupil thanks to the Optometrist. But that's a story for another day (and one where I show off my new hardware)...

Sweater - Forever21; Skirt - Jacob; Boots - Aldo; Socks - American Apparel; Watch - Fossil

Nature of the Beast

Nature always plays a factor in outfit choice.

Usually it's the weather that you're dressing to accommodate; however, this week I was dressing for a different natural reason.

I was the victim of a mosquito attack over the weekend, so outfit choices this week has been very interesting. First of all, as all the bites were in the lower-leg/ankle-area I couldn't shave my legs - so skirts were out. Then, it was hard to find a pair of pants that wouldn't cause me to overheat throughout the day, but that also wouldn't rub against the bites making them worse. It's been horrible.

So, after the first agonizing day I came home, slathered myself in After Bite and I put on the only outfit I could think of that would discourage me from scratching.

So here you have it, the most embarassing nature inspired outfit I've ever had to wear.

It was hideous.

But it worked wonders.

Tank - SmartSet; PJs - Old Navy; Socks - American Apparel
I'm giving these bug bites lots of tender love and care, in hopes that they go away as soon as possible.

Isn't this the ugliest ensemble you've ever seen?
