Monochromatic Safari

Blouse - ASOS; Jeans - H&M: Boots - Aldo; Belt - Jacob; Watch - Fossil

When it comes to fashion, I don't like to be too predictable. That's why after three days of bright skirts and channeling spring, I decided to mix it up with a monochromatic look, and a few elephants for fun!

Lazy

Skirt - ASOS; Skirt - Jacob, thrifted;
Boots - Aldo; Watch - Fossil

This skirt was a gift from my mom. Months and months ago, she called to tell me she'd found a great skirt at Value Village and was sending it to me. Now, normally when my mom thrifts items for me they aren't exactly my style; so, you can imagine my surprise when weeks later this wool beauty from Jacob arrived in my mailbox - well done mom!

Sadly, it's been sitting in my closet since that fateful day. The hem needed repairing and I was just too lazy to get my act together enough to get black thread and a needle from my sewing box. That is, until two weekends ago. I was sitting at home watching a trio of chick flicks on W when I was suddenly inspired to once and for all cross fixing this skirt off my to do list (and we all know how much I love crossing things off a to do list). Within ten minutes the job was done.

Since then I've worn this skirt twice, and could kick myself that I didn't fix it sooner. Why did I let this wonderful piece sit neglected in my closet for so long!?

I don't think I'll have trouble making up for it this winter; I have a very good feeling this skirt will be in heavy rotation all season long.

Willpower

Blouse - ASOS; Skirt - Jacob; Pumps - Nine West; Watch - Fossil

I have no willpower, which, according to my interpretation of this LearnVest article, is because I don't drink enough juice. Okay, I know that's not exactly what they're saying, I just want an excuse to drink juice (MinuteMaid fruit punch is one of my vices).

Regardless of how much, or how little, glucose is in my system, I have absolutely no willpower when it comes to shoes.

One day after uttering the words, "I really don't need anymore shoes..." I went and bought these Nine West platform Mary Janes. It wasn't my fault. I'd seen them days before while wandering through Rideau and displayed excellent willpower at the time.

Fast forward two days and I couldn't stop thinking about them. That's when I realized that I had nothing like them in my closet; plus, they were 50% off, so it would have been stupid not to buy them - don't you love my attempts at rationalization?!

Really, all it comes down to is that I have no willpower, and after wearing these to work earlier in the week, I have no regrets.

Neutrals, Neon & Elephants

Blouse - ASOS; Pants - Jacob; Shoes & Ring - Aldo; Watch - Fossil

It's Friday! Happy Friday everyone!

Although the weather network is predicting a less than stellar weekend, I'm trying to stay optimistic as I'm hoping to get out, cruise the city on my bike, and get some sun before I jet off to Toronto on Wednesday.

I wore this outfit earlier this week to test-drive it for the conference. I like to give my ensembles a try-out before putting them in the big show. I think it passed the test.

Now, I have to admit something, until this week I wasn't totally sold on the neon trend. I know, I know... blasphemous. But then, I discovered neon nail polish. It's the perfect way for me to incorporate the trend into my wardrobe - plus, it's so fun for summer.

So, there you have it, a neon convert with the stroke of a brush.

Petite Fashion Challenge #15: Chic Pin-spiration

There's nothing like a petite fashion challenge to pull you out of a rut.

These past couple of weeks I've been stuck in the rut of all sartorial ruts. No original outfits, lots of black, nothing good to share; it was a bummer of a couple of weeks. But that's what happens when life, work and NHL playoffs take over. Thankfully, things have slowed down just enough for me to take part in this month's challenge.

Chic Pin-spiration-- Find a pic of an outfit you love on Pinterest, and re-create it the best way possible!

Special Delivery

I was inspired to buy this skirt after seeing something similar on lovely Louise of Fifth Sparrow at the beginning of October. It was love at first sight; however, I didn't buy the skirt right away. Instead, I thought about it all day every day for over a week before I finally pulled the trigger.

Arriving right on schedule, the skirt couldn't have been delivered at a worse time. So busy with work, Halloween preparations and reuniting with a friend who had just returned from Oslo, the plastic envelope sat on my couch for FIVE DAYS before I could actually open it and try it on. A blaspheme, as any fashion girl would know.

Each morning as I went to make my coffee I would pass by the package and dreamt about opening it, trying it on and what I would wear it with. But those dreams were always ruined when I would see the time on the microwave, and I'd have to kick my morning routine into high gear.

It wasn't until I returned from my Halloween weekend in Kingston (pics here) that I was able to actually savour the skirt; and, savour I did!

A Star is Born

I ordered this dress from ASOS weeks ago, and couldn't have been more pleased when I found it shoved into my mailbox one day after work - such an amazing surprise! I couldn't wait to tear open the package and take this baby out for a spin.

The dress is a tad bit shorter than I would normally go for - especially when sitting, I was not expecting to feel that much of the chair underneath me.

But isn't that what fashion's all about, pushing our boundaries?!

Yes, that is the tag hanging out the back. I wasn't sure about the size - ASOS lists their items in UK sizing, and I wasn't sure how that would translate - but after this mini-photoshoot I knew this dress had found a home in my closet.

This was my first ASOS purchase, and I doubt it will be my last.

They're selection of fun, and colourful pieces - available in petite sizes - is too much too pass up.

I can't wait to wear this dress with a pair of tights and boots and rock it all through the winter.

Ottawa Fashion Week kicks-off tonight. Petite Adventures'll be there ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the latest looks for Spring 2012. Hope to see you there!
