Any and All Things Watermelon

With the weather we've been having lately, it's hard to believe that summer doesn't officially start for another month. I'm already starting to worry that my two-fan, four-shower-a-day system isn't going to get me through these hot and humid months.

Although these next few weeks are going to wreak havoc on my hair (slowly, throughout the day it becomes puffier until I realize I'm sporting a pyramid shaped afro), I can't really begin to tell you how excited I am for summer: cruising along the canal on my BIXI bike (humming the Wicked Witch of the West's these... it only seemed fitting), sitting on the Starbucks patio pretending to read as I people watch, and soaking up as much sunshine as I can before we're once again faced with winter.

But the thing I'm most excited for is watermelon; any and all things watermelon. From the food to the colour, it's long been a favourite of mine. So, in honour of the season of the melon, I thought I'd share with you some of my favourite ways to have and wear watermelon this summer.

To Have

Sliced. It's quick and messy, the best way to savour this fruit.

Watermelon, feta cheese and mint amuse bouches - so delicious

Watermelon popsicles (can also be made adult-style)

Watermelon cucumber cocktail - pretty much the definition of refreshing

To Wear

Jacob

A great dress to go from day-to-night - you'll look sweet enough to eat in this pleated dress from Jacob.

Gap Boyfriend roll-up shorts

It'll be hard to do the aforementioned people-watching in these boyfriend shorts from the Gap; with a look this comfortable and chic it'll hard to go unnoticed.

And because no look is finished without the perfect mani/pedi, there's Watermelon by Essie.

There you have it; your guide to watermelon, from head to toe.

What are you looking forward to this summer?

June Gloom

As I was getting ready for work a few days ago, I couldn’t help but think how there was no truer statement to describe the weather than June gloom. The sky was grey, the rain was falling, it looked as though it would never be sunny again.

I followed suit with my ensemble, choosing monochromatic grey, black and white - all the way down to my choice of nail polish - but accented it with a pop of blue, just to lift the spirits a little.

It was also the perfect opportunity to break out my new-to-me Nine West pumps, a fabulous find at Value Village this past weekend. I don't normally like to buy used shoes (or used anything for that matter) but they are in near perfect condition - too good to pass up!

Tanks - Smart Set; Cardigan - Zara; Pants - Talula Babaton, Aritzia
Shoes - Nine West (thrifted); Necklace - gifted; Nail Polish - Chinchilly by Essie
Because it was freezing that morning I threw on a cardigan to avoid hypothermia, not that I minded, they are some of my favourite pieces of clothing, just not in June.

Hopefully this gloom passes soon; I'm ready for sunshine and sundresses!
