Happy Holidays!
I hope you're enjoying this time of year as much as I am. I've flown across the country and am at home in B.C. staying away from the snow and taking advantage of dog walking and home cooked meals for the next couple of weeks; take my word for it, it's divine.
But just because I'm 4425.55km (and one ferry ride) away and three hours behind doesn't mean our regular scheduled programming will end; oh no, quite the opposite.
In this week's style profile, in honour of the holidays and the season of giving, I thought I would give you a glimpse behind the laptop of Petite Adventures. So take a gander while you nurse your turkey-comas.

When
and why did you start your site?
I first started my blog in early 2011 shortly after I moved from Vancouver to
Ottawa. I was looking for a creative outlet and something to keep me busy while
I was on the job hunt and trying to sort life out. But Petite Adventures didn’t
last too long in its original form. After a few months and a quick revamp, it was up-and-running
once again in June as the Petite Adventures you see today.
I also started Petite Adventures as a way of getting comfortable with
people reading my writing. I’ve always loved to write, but it’s something that
I’m very self-conscious about; this seemed like the perfect way of overcoming a
fear and living out a dream.
How
would you describe your site?
Petite Adventures is my personal style diary. I’m trying to navigate my
way through dressing for the corporate world while staying age appropriate, fun
and unique.
I read waaaay too many
magazines and blogs. I find those are the best places for inspiration; whenever
I see something that I like, or want to try, I pin it!
I’m also a huge people watcher. If I see an outfit on the streets that I
love I’ll write myself a note on my iPhone to try something similar.
Who are
your style/beauty icons?
Right now it’s definitely Kate Middleton. I love her style. It’s very
feminine, but practical. It fits perfectly with what I’m trying to achieve with
my work wardrobe. I also look up to Rachel Bilson. She really knows how to
dress for her smaller stature and she always manages to look really funky and
cute. I also like Reese Witherspoon and Victoria Beckham’s styles (I’ve always
wanted to be Posh Spice). Surprisingly (to me, at least) I also really like
some of the outfits Jessica Biel puts together – she can be very chic at times. And, Kendi of Kendi Everyday - she always looks so chic!

I’ve been looking more at people like Anne Hathaway and Mila
Kunis, Kirsten Dunst and Sienna Miller, people with edgier styles that are the
complete opposite of what I generally gravitate towards, but that’s my goal –
taking more fashion risks and melding the two looks.
You can see where I get my inspiration by checking out my Pinterest. I have a problem; I'm addicted.

Describe
your personal style.
Classic, feminine, with a dash of funk (I am only 25 after all) – at
least that what I’m aiming for.
What
was the best style/beauty advice you were given?
Less is more. I think this goes for everything from makeup to
accessories. And, I do believe it’s always better to be overdressed than to be underdressed.
Where
are your favourite places to shop?
Smart Set, Jacob, Aritzia, and H&M (back when I lived in Vancouver; I
miss it) for clothes. Asos has also become one of my go-tos of late; it’s nice
to find items that not everyone else in the city owns. Aldo for shoes; it’s the
only place I can find shoes that fit my midget feet.

Pet Peeve?
What do
you never leave home without?
My iPhone, Moleskine agenda (I feel seriously lost without it), aviators, Burt's Bees lip balm in Fig.
What
are your five essential items that you think every woman should own?
1. Black pencil
skirt
2. The perfect pair of jeans
3. pair tall wedge boots - they spice up any ensemble, from a dress to jeans.
4. a handbag in a colour that pops (I'm partial to red)
5. An LBD - you can't go wrong, especially when you pair them with the boots.
In five years I hope to be a published writer, but still working in PR. I
hope to have traveled worldwide going on many petite adventures. To wake up everyday with a smile on my face. Oh, and a walk-in closet wouldn't hurt.
What's on your
nightstand?
A stack of magazines; everything from Women’s Health to Vogue, Canadian Living to
Flare. A stack of library books, running the gamut of finance books to a
(unauthorized) biography of Anna Wintour. My journal and a bunch pens.
Something random about me.
I'm terrified of snakes. When asked what's the worst that can happen I always answer "Snake Attack!" (and I'm usually only half joking).

So lovely to get this little peek into your life! I didn't know you worked in PR as well, the writer-in-a-PR-world was very similar to what I was doing before I went back to journo school! And your pet peeve...let me just say it should be outlawed haha.
ReplyDeleteHope you have an amazing holiday season love!
