Style Profile: The-Unprecedented

Name: Randa Salloum
Age: 25
Occupation: Artist, Writer, Personal Stylist
Location: Vancouver, BC

When and why did you start your site?
I started The-Unprecedented at the end of 2008. However, it wasn't until 2010 that I started writing and adding content full time. I started the blog to release my inspiration and thoughts on the Fashion industry. At the time I was a student in Fashion Marketing & Management and needed more of an outlet.

How would you describe your site?
My site is a dose of Fashion that you can't get anywhere else. I focus on just a few segments such as; Outfit Posts, Closet Confessions, My Life, and other things that go along with what I do in fashion. I use my own images and make sure that when you stop at my blog you will be able to get a deep look into my fashion life. Closet Confessions is my favorite segment, it is the only site that takes you into the closets of Vancouver's most fashionable. Soon I will branch into other cities.

Where do you get your inspiration?
I gain my inspiration from my friends and family. They are so creative and push me to keep going with my art and blog. I live in the downtown core of Vancouver so it's never a dull moment! There is inspiration everywhere.

Who are your style/beauty icons?
Olivia Palermo, Carine Roitfeldt, Alexander Wang, Kelly Cutrone, Joe Zee, Nina Garcia, Anna Della Russo, Ashley Olsen and Phoebe Philo .... I could go on and on!

Describe your personal style.
My style can be very traditional at times and very eclectic the next. Sometimes I'll end up mixing the two ideas to have a classic look with an edge. I stick to neutrals and don't wear many prints. The Editor of Poppy Magazine once said: "Randa has the best understanding of neutrals I have ever seen, she literrally makes them not neutral." That is something I always think about when getting dressed, how can I turn this look into something more?

What was the best style/beauty advice you were given?
The best advice I was given was to edit, edit, edit and never over think an outfit.

Where are your favourite places to shop?

What are your favourite trends for this season?
Military Inspired looks, over sized shillouettes, velvet, stilettoes (yay! no more platform heels!), bold lips.

Style/Beauty Pet Peeve?
Lululemon pants are NOT pants for everyday. In fact, any type of gym clothing should never see outside of a gym. Tights worn denim shorts and when an outfit is not accessorized.

What do you never leave home without?
Some type of jewelery (I'll feel naked!), my iPhone... and let's be honest... I take everything! Makeup, planner, toiletries, umbrella (I live in Vancouver), perfume, external hard drive and notebook.

What are your five essential items that you think every woman should own?
A structured but sheer black button up blouse, dark denim skinny jeans, black stilettos, gold statement jewelry and the perfect carry-all bag.

Where do you see yourself and your site in five years?
For my site I see Closet Confessions in multiple cities, showcasing closets from around North America. For myself, hopefully living on the East Coast still making my I See Noise prints and simply enjoying my life.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Style Profile: Sounds of Sweet Lullabies

Name: Pari Coleini
Age:  24
Occupation: Fashion Blogger / Interior Designer
Location: Vancouver, BC

When and why did you start your site?
I started my blog in early 2011. I'd been reading other fashion blogs for a long time and always thought it was such an exciting concept; so when I graduated from university, and was searching for work, I decided to start a blog in order to experience with different styles, move out of my comfort zone and find what's right for me. It was a push for me to make an effort and put some thought into what I wore.

How would you describe your site?
I would say it's a diary, but instead of what happens, it focuses on what I wear. A lot of outfit posts. I stay true to my own style, but I also experiment with trends. Other than my outfit post, I share my inspirations, both in the world of fashion and architecture or design. I also post all about my travels, usually tagged under "travel diaries."

Where do you get your inspiration?
I've studied art and design so my inspiration draws from anything or anywhere. Nature is such a big inspiration, because sometimes it brings together colours and textures that we wouldn't even think of putting together. I also keep updated with trends, I love street style blogs or simply watching what people wear on the streets inspire me too.

Who are your style/beauty icons?
Audrey Hepburn is my all time favourite icon. Both her beauty and elegance.
Other than her, I have two style icons: Kate Bosworth and Alexa Chung. I love their effortless but always stylish and chic style.

Describe your personal style.
I like to wear basics, but with a piece that stands out. Currently I'm drawn to dressing in a monochromatic colour scheme, preferably in blacks and greys in my daily outfits. I try to include trends into my outfits when I can.

What was the best style/beauty advice you were given?
Marc Jacobs said: "Always find beauty in things that are odd and imperfect - they are much more interesting," and it's always in my mind.

Where are your favourite places to shop?
I'm an online shopper, and it has never failed me. My favourite online store, with affordable prices and great products is asos.com … Although I always want to go and check out/shop from local stores in Vancouver, I always find myself in Zara. I also love vintage shopping, my favourite vintage shop, was a little one in Florence, Italy.

What are your favourite trends for this season?
Oxblood everything (specially leather) and all black outfits.

Style/Beauty Pet Peeve?
Crocs.

What do you never leave home without?
Lip Balm, Eyeliner and my phone.

What are your five essential items that you think every woman should own?
A comfortable, spacious everyday bag. A perfume with a scent thats just right for her. The perfect jeans. The little black dress. Lipstick/lip balm/lip gloss.

Where do you see yourself and your site in five years?
I hope to up the level of the quality in my posts and bring some fun videos in for my readers. I hope to work together with other bloggers and other creative people in the world of fashion.

Style Profile: Dollar Foolish. Closet Wise

Name: Sheryl
Age: Forever young
Occupation: Financial services by day; blogger by night
Location: Vancouver, B.C.

When and why did you start your site?
May 18, 2012. Initially, I began my blog to share with people my fashion and beauty wants and desires, as well as, what inspires me and my style. I have somewhat of a shopping addiction and I thought that by sharing my wishes virtually would help prevent me from spending when not necessary. In late 2012, I decided to start sharing outfit posts of myself in an effort to combat the generalization in this society that you have to look a certain way or be a certain size to be considered fashionable/beautiful/stylish/trendy.

How would you describe your site?
I would describe my site as a place people can stop by to learn a make-up trick or two, to get ideas for products to try and a place where women of all sizes can feel inspired to try wearing or styling something they didn’t think they could.

Where do you get your inspiration?
From so many places! I love getting ideas from celebrities, visual window displays, magazines, other bloggers and online e-commerce sites.

Who are your style/beauty icons?
You know, people love to bash them and very few people I know admit to liking them, but I really do like the Kardashians. I love how each sister sports their own look, both clothing and make-up wise. But if we take fashion and style aside, they have shown us that we shouldn’t hide our curves, but embrace them. My beauty icons would have to be Dita Von Teese , Lana Del Rey and Adele, for their make-up always looking so perfect and precise!

Describe your personal style.
I think I’m somewhere in between romantic and classic, with a touch of modern and vintage. I love pairing ‘dressy’ and ‘casual’ items together, like a t-shirt with flashy jewelry and pairing that with either jeans or a skirt. I don’t really believe in reserving certain looks or accessories for either day or night. I think you can make anything work – no matter what the hour!

What was the best style/beauty advice you were given?
I think it was something Stacey London said during an episode of What Not To Wear. Something along the lines of we’re always beautiful - even when we’re a size we’re not happy with. It’s very easy to under-value ourselves because we’re not happy with the size we’re at, which then transitions into the mindset of thinking we don’t deserve a new dress or a new pair of jeans, etc. Anyone can look good, no matter what their size and she reminded me of that.

Where are your favourite places to shop?
I don’t have favourite places to shop so much as I do have favourite brands and labels. Despite the stigma of department stores, they probably top my list of places to shop for the sheer variety and the fact that many of the higher end ones have really adapted to the times and carry many brands that were once-upon-a-time exclusive to small boutiques. I love finding designer deals at The Outnet and trendy pieces at ASOS. I also love the hunt for designer goods within local consignment shops.

What are your favourite trends for this season?
I’m already imagining sunnier days, which has me thinking into spring. I’m ready to embrace the color emerald in every way possible! I’m also looking forward to incorporating graphic prints.

Style/Beauty Pet Peeve?
I have two. Beauty-wise it has to be unmanaged, unruly, effortless eyebrows!!! The second would have to be wearing leggings as pants, which I can’t believe still needs to be discussed. I don’t doubt for a second we’ve all be unwillingly privy to seeing someone do this. At the very least, just don’t bend over!

What do you never leave home without?
I never leave home without a red lipstick in my bag. You never know what occasion may surprisingly come up. It’s a saving grace to looking put together in a matter of seconds!

What are your five essential items that you think every woman should own?
Only five? Well, then it would have to be:
  1. A red lipstick.
  2. Tweezers.
  3. A well-made handbag.
  4. A knee-length trench or well made wool coat (depending on the needs within your climate).
  5. Tailored fitting black dress.

I like to invest on the outward pieces first, then  work my way in.

Where do you see yourself and your site in five years?
I would love to still be involved in the blogging world, setting an example that style comes in every size. I’ve always dreamed of having my own boutique, either brick and mortar or e-commerce and I would love to one day have my own clothing line. In five years from now if I’m not doing either one of those, I’d definitely like to be very close to launching one or both.

Style Profile: Alison Elle

Name: Alison
Age: 26
Occupation: Lawyer
Location: Vancouver

When and why did you start your site?
I started my site in 2010 while I was still in law school. I felt very stifled from studying/working all the time and really needed the creative outlet.

How would you describe your site?
It's a mix of all my favourite things, from product reviews and nail art tutorials to daily outfit posts and recent purchases. I also like to share new restaurants and places that I discover in Vancouver.

Where do you get your inspiration?
People on the street, blogs, celebrities, and Pinterest. Inspiration is everywhere!

Who are your style/beauty icons?
Rachel Bilson has a great casual style that I love. Olivia Palermo can do no wrong.

Describe your personal style.
One of my friends has described it as "downtown-chic." I tend to prefer more understated looks with lots of layers and neutral/monochromatic colour palettes.

What was the best style/beauty advice you were given?
Don't waste your money on fast fashion and cheap thrills; instead, invest in quality pieces that you will cherish for longer.

Where are your favourite places to shop?
Aritzia and Club Monaco are my favourites - a very large percentage of my wardrobe comes from those two stores. I also like Holt Renfrew and The Bay (downtown Vancouver location) for higher end designer pieces. My go-to online store is ShopBop.

What are your favourite trends for this season?
Sheer panels and cut-out detailing.

Style/Beauty Pet Peeve?
I think TOMS shoes are hideous, but that's just my personal opinion. I know a lot of people can totally rock them.

What do you never leave home without?
My iPhone, wallet, keys, MAC Blot Powder, and lip balm.

What are your five essential items that you think every woman should own?
A classic black blazer, a leather jacket, a well-fitting pair of skinny pants or jeans, black booties, and a designer handbag.

Where do you see yourself and your site in five years?
I have no idea! Blogging has brought me a lot of great opportunities and I am excited to see what happens next.

Style Profile: Poutine and Prada

Name: Sarah Winton
Age: 32
Occupation: I'm temping at the moment. I graduated from the Publishing Program at Langara College in August, and I'm working hard to build a career in social media.
Location: Vancouver

When and why did you start your site?
I started Poutine and Prada in the winter of 2010. I was working as an admin assistant, and I was desperate for some creativity! The blog was a fun way for me to express myself outside of a corporate environment.

How would you describe your site?
I focus mainly on beauty product reviews; however, you'll find a little bit of everything there. Fashion, fun, and the trials and tribulations of daily life are all things that I touch on. I try to keep it light. I really believe that it's important to laugh as much as possible, life is serious enough as it is!

Where do you get your inspiration?
Most of my inspiration comes from people watching, I am forever noticing the details of other women's outfits and mentally cataloguing them. Quite often I'll compliment someone on their lipstick or top, and most of the time they mention where they got it. Living in Vancouver, I take public transit everywhere and, aside from providing reading time, my commute is a people watcher's dream!

 Who are your style/beauty icons?
Twiggy because I love the mod looks of the 60s. Audrey Hepburn because her style was just so classic, and all of the fabulous ladies behind the many fashion blogs I follow!

Describe your personal style.
Classic and casual with a trend or two that suits me. Most of my outfits are made up of a couple of solid basics topped off with a few funky accessories and fun shoes. My look is a work in progress, I feel that I didn't really come into my own until about three or four years. I try to balance being trendy, fun, and age-appropriate.

What was the best style/beauty advice you were given?
Never go to bed without washing your make-up off, wear clothes that fit properly (pieces that are too big or too small tend to look horrendous), and exfoliate!

Where are your favourite places to shop?
Ebay, and American Eagle Outfitters, because their jeans are cheap and fit me perfectly. I'm from the Yukon and the shopping options up there are abysmal! Out of necessity I've learned to be pretty online shopping savvy! Some of my favourite online destinations include Boutique Onze (www.boutiqueonze.ca), Modcloth (www.modlcoth.com) of course, Etsy, and Simons (www.simons.ca). I also take advantage of flash sale websites such as www.beyondtherack.com, www.hautelook.com, www.thevolts.com, and www.modnique.com.

What are your favourite trends for this season?
I'm loving oxblood, and I think peplum dresses and tops are fun. I'm also kind of obssessed with faux fur. I'm on the hunt for a stole, or a full-on fur coat... whichever I come across first!

Style/Beauty Pet Peeve?
Crocs! They are just so terrible. Truly hideous. *shudder*

What do you never leave home without?
My watch, lip gloss, and my keys!

What are your five essential items that you think every woman should own?
A pair of jeans that fit like a glove, a classic blazer, a fun, bright pair of shoes, a really good mascara, and a bold lipstick.

Name: Veronika
Age: Thirty-something ;)
Occupation: I run my blog and an online store + design my own jewelry line.
Location: Canada

When and why did you start your site?
I started just over a year and a half ago. As for the reason to starting the blog?! I really wanted to have a little place on the internet where I could post outfits, blog about my married adventures, and my day-to-day inspirations + be a part of the amazing community! It’s been such a fun experience. I'm so thrilled I started the “Girl & Closet” blog.

How would you describe your site?
Well, it seems to constantly evolve. I post a lot about fashion, but I also love to post about personal things... like my weekend adventures that I take with my hubby, and I hope to start sharing more recipes and healthy eating tips too.

I love people watching, going to art shows, concerts, and being around other creative people - that definitely helps me get inspired! And, I love the blogging community too, there is always so much to inspiration.

Style/Beauty Pet Peeve?
Too much make-up. It just never looks good!

Falsies, Maybelline mascara and my sunglasses.

What are your five essential items that you think every woman should own?

Where do you see yourself and your site in five years?
I absolutely plan on blogging still. My husband and I are trying for a family, so I'm sure that will bring change as well as cause the blog to evolve. But I love that a blog can grow with you - that's kind of my favourite part.

What's on your nightstand?
My IPhone, lip balm, random notes, and my jewelry dish.

Tell Petite Adventures readers something random about yourself.
I have to eat cookies before I go to bed every night - it’s a problem! Haha.

Occupation: Entrepreneur
Location: Vancouver, BC

When and why did you start your site?
I started my blog as a very personal diary style it has evolved into a fashion blog.

How would you describe your site?
It has been primarily about fashion for quite some time, mostly style journals, but I am gearing towards some more lifestyle posts soon.  We’ll see :)

West Coast Chic!  Very classic and feminine, I do try to include some trendy pieces, but always dress to flatter my shape.
