Family Day

Today is a holiday in parts of Canada, including Ontario - hurray! - and, it also happens to be my birthday. Because my family lives out west, I've decided to spend this day (Sunday: the sequel, as I like to think of it) doing everything that I love. So, while I'm basking in the gloriousness of my couch (and not getting dressed, unless you count sweatpants), I thought we'd check out the week that was, via my instagram feed (follow me @petiteadventure).

We had a bit of a snowstorm.
After repeated droppings (and in a couple of cases, an accidental flinging)
my iPhone case decided it no long wanted to stay together. Break-up of the century.
One of my favourite looks from last week
My favourite look from last week, worn to Dress for Success
Nothing says Happy Valentine's Day like a surprised robot.
Waiting for my Birthday boots. They stayed in this spot 'in transit' for two days.
To forget the fact that Canada Post lied to me about my boots' delivery date, I did a bit of Bikram's yoga.
Finally, my boots arrived - hurray!
And, so did my ice cream maker!
Took my boots for their trial run
In the foyer, work bound.
In the foyer, en route to the gym.
I did a little impulse shopping at Forever 21. The pencil skirt collection grows!
Spent some time with Steve, bonding over our favourite topic.
Completely owned my weekend to-do list (this was taking Saturday afternoon)
Made the most delicious (unhealthiest) dessert: warm cinnamon apples.
Braved the -14C (felt like -21C) temperatures to check out WinterBrewed

Hope you had a fabulous weekend!

Style Profile: Little Red Purse

Name: Leah Sandhu
Age: 25
Occupation: Owner of Vantage Events & Wedding coordination
Location: Toronto, ON

When and why did you start your site?
I officially started my blog in October of 2009, but didn't really start committing time and effort to it until August 2010 when I needed a creative outlet.

How would you describe your site?
Well, it started out solely as a fashion blog, but over time and as I've grown as a person, it has also become more of a lifestyle blog.

Where do you get your inspiration?
I get my inspiration from other bloggers, pinterest, and other favourite sites.

Who are your style/beauty icons?
Gillian Zinser - her effortlessly cool style is something I would love to be able to pull off. I also really love Mira Duma. She has the quirkiest fashion sense and I love that about her.

Describe your personal style.
My style is a little all over the place, but in one word - comfort. I love big cozy sweaters, wool socks, and maxi skirts. I rarely wear heels, but I do love to dress up when the occasion arises.

What was the best style/beauty advice you were given?
I can't help but quote Coco Chanel: "Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off." I am all about simplicity, and I believe that a lot of women overthink fashion, so this is the best advice.

Where are your favourite places to shop?
Hitting the mid-20's really changed how I think about clothes and wear I shop. So I try to stay away from Forever21 and instead head for H&M and Zara, and of course the thrift stores!

What are your favourite trends for this season?
I really do love the burgundy/ oxblood (whatever name you want to call it) colour trend. I also do love the patterned pants since it's something that I can easily fit into my everyday wardrobe.

Style/Beauty Pet Peeve?
My biggest style pet peeve is when girls wear leggings as pants, with a shirt that barely covers their bum! Also, knock off Ugg boots. They're bad enough as it is, but the cheaply made pairs are even worse because they fold to the side on heel and just look awful.

What do you never leave home without?
My cell phone, Blistex lip balm, and a pack of gum.

What are your five essential items that you think every woman should own?
A pair of black flats, black pumps, a trench coat, good stick of mascara, and a comfortable bra.

What is one of your goals for 2013?
One of my goals this year is to really push myself out of my comfort zone in whatever I do. I want to experience new things and really learn to enjoy life to it's fullest!

Where do you see yourself and your site in five years?
I honestly don't know where I'll be or what this little blog of mine will look like. I want it to grow with me and be a reflection of who I am. It's exciting to think of what new possibilities will be out there and what my interests will be, and that's what I'll continue to share with my readers.

Have a great weekend!

Weekend Wears

Sweater - Joe Fresh; Blouse & Trousers - Jacob; Flats - Aldo; Watch - Fossil
I was looking for an outfit that was put together, but casual, and something that I could wear with flats (NB: mom, I did not wear the flats outside, I merely changed into them once indoors) for my Dress for Success shift over the weekend. So, naturally, I reached for my new favourite pants and an amazingly cozy cashmere sweater from Joe Fresh. It was perfect for browsing the racks and picking out pieces for DFS clients.

The only thing that would have made this outfit better would have been a lack of snow and +15C temperatures.

A Snowy Expedition

Sweater - Zara; T-shirt - Old Navy; Tank - Smart Set; Pants - Joe Fresh;
Boots - Steve Madden; Watch - Fossil

Friday, the snow started to fall before I woke up and it didn't stop falling until well after I went to bed. As beautiful and angelic as it looked from inside my apartment/at the office, walking in it was less than fun. To make my daily trek to work, I thought it was only appropriate to dress as though I was going on an expedition. My ensemble may have been more safari than arctic tundra, but I thought it worked for trudging through the snow.

Style Profile: Marie a la Mode

Name: Marie Zydek
Age: 32
Occupation: Full-time: Buyer, Part-time: Wardrobe Stylist, Actor and Blogger
Location: Edmonton, Alberta

When and why did you start your site?
Almost 3 years ago! Time has flown. I started it because I needed a creative outlet, a place to share my passions.

How would you describe your site?
It's fashion-based but I also blog about cosmetics, celebrities, fitness, etc.

Where do you get your inspiration?
Everywhere! Other blogs, websites, magazines, the media, instagram photos, T.V., film, the list goes on!

Who are your style/beauty icons?
Style: Clemence Poesy.
Beauty: Cindy Crawford and Kate Winslet. Both age so gracefully and aren't afraid of a few wrinkles.

Describe your personal style.
Hmmmm, that's hard. I dress according to how I feel. Being comfortable is most important to me but I also like incorporating trends and giving my outfits a little bit of an edge. And other times I'll feel really girly and put on a flowy dress and high heels.

What was the best style/beauty advice you were given?
Wash the makeup off of your face before you go to bed and always wear sunscreen!

Where are your favourite places to shop?
Online: Shopbop and ASOS
In store: Zara, Simons, Top Shop, The Bay.

What are your favourite trends for this season?
Structured, classic-cut coats. I have a lot of coats and they have to be warm because of the climate I live in! I also love faux fur during the winter.

Style/Beauty Pet Peeve?
When guys wear baggy jeans and I can see their underwear. Like, really? Why don't you just wear the underwear and go without the pants then? Sometimes I get the urge to go up to those guys in public and pull their pants down and run away. That would teach them a lesson!

What do you never leave home without?
My Marc Jacobs bag which has my whole life in it!

What are your five essential items that you think every woman should own?

  1. A black blazer
  2. A good pair of jeans
  3. A classic white collared blouse
  4. Beige and black heels
  5. A Little Black Dress
  6. A great leather bag
  7. A black leather jacket.
(sorry, I couldn't do just 5!)

Where do you see yourself and your site in five years?
I hope to still be blogging, styling and acting in 5 years and I hope to be married with children by then.

More Monochrome

Blazer - Talula; T-Shirt - Old Navy; Skirt - Jacob;
Necklace - Smart Set; Pumps - Aldo; Watch - Fossil

There's nothing like going out for drinks with friends to pull you out of a funk. Even though I'm feeling a millions times better than I did earlier in the week, I decided to stick with my monochromatic theme to close out the week. Not because it reflected how I was feeling, but because it's chic.
